The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) has officially reported a significant data breach to the Attorney General of Massachusetts following a cyberattack that compromised sensitive personal information under its control. The breach, which occurred between June 20 and June 26, 2024, allowed unauthorized access to RSNA’s computer network, exposing the names and Social Security numbers of affected individuals.
RSNA first became aware of the breach on June 25, 2024, and promptly secured its network to prevent further unauthorized access. The organization then initiated a thorough investigation to understand the scope of the incident. By July 26, 2024, RSNA had completed its review of the compromised files and identified the individuals whose information was affected.
As a result of the breach, RSNA began notifying impacted individuals on August 28, 2024, through formal data breach letters. These letters include details on the specific information exposed during the breach.
RSNA is a prominent organization in the medical field, representing radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical physicists, and other related professionals. The association is known for its educational resources, including continuing education credits and hosting the world’s largest radiology conference. With over 349 employees and an annual revenue of approximately $48 million, RSNA plays a significant role in the radiology community.
