LoTW is a crucial online database for amateur radio enthusiasts, enabling them to log and confirm successful communications, known as QSOs (contacts) and QSLs (confirmations). These logs are essential for operators seeking awards and recognition for their communication achievements.

The organization clarified that it does not store credit card details or collect social security numbers. However, its member database does contain sensitive information, such as names, addresses, and call signs.
