Cognizant denies data breach claims, says hacker group stole fake test data

The infamous IntelBroker hacker group recently claimed that it infiltrated the internal network of global IT giant Cognizant and stole confidential data associated with 40,000 individuals.

According to a post on X, IntelBroker, one of the most notorious hacker groups in recent days, claimed that it compromised the data of 40,000 users and gained access to a 12 million-line document from Cognizant’s internal website.

The group claimed it also stole user data from the company’s Oracle Insurance Policy Admin System (OIPA), a cloud-based DevOps solution.

According to IntelBroker, the compromised data contained sensitive information such as policy numbers, role codes, client names, company codes, state codes, role sequence numbers, arrangement numbers, arrangement status, start dates, start years, end dates, end years, draft days, modular amounts, and next premium due dates.

When asked whether the allegations of IntelBroker are true, a Cognizant spokesperson told The Cyber Express, “We are aware of the reports made by a cybercriminal organisation, claiming it has targeted some of our services. We take this matter very seriously and we are investigating the validity and extent of this claim.”

However, in a separate statement shared with the media house, a company spokesperson said that its internal investigation revealed the incident involved a cloud-based testing environment with fictional test data.

“We have investigated the claim and found that the impact involved a cloud-based testing environment with fictional test data,” the company spokesperson added.

The company has also confirmed that no client data has been compromised by the alleged data security incident.
