Washington Hotel, a Japan-based business hotel chain operating under Fujita Kanko Inc., confirmed that its servers were compromised in a ransomware attack on Feb. 13, 2026, resulting in unauthorized access to business data and temporary service disruptions at some properties.
The intrusion occurred at approximately 10 p.m. local time when hackers breached the company’s network. IT staff immediately disconnected affected servers from the internet to contain the attack and prevent lateral movement within the network.
Washington Hotel has formed an internal task force and engaged external cybersecurity experts to investigate the scope of the incident, assess potential customer data exposure and coordinate recovery efforts. The company has also begun consulting with law enforcement authorities.
The investigation remains ongoing, but the company confirmed that attackers accessed various business data stored on the compromised servers. Customer data is unlikely to have been exposed because that information is stored on systems managed by a separate company, and no unauthorized access has been identified on those servers.
The incident has disrupted certain operations at some Washington Hotel brand properties, including the temporary unavailability of credit card terminals. The company reported no significant operational interruptions beyond those issues.
Washington Hotel operates 30 locations across Japan and offers approximately 11,000 rooms. The chain serves nearly 5 million guests annually, primarily catering to business travelers.
The financial impact of the ransomware attack is under review. The company said it will provide further updates as additional information becomes available.
No ransomware groups have publicly claimed responsibility for the attack on known dark web extortion portals at this time.
The incident follows a series of recent cyberattacks targeting major organizations in Japan, including global automaker Nissan, retail company Muji, brewer Asahi and telecommunications provider NTT.
