TikTok announced on Tuesday that it has successfully stopped a cyberattack targeting high-profile accounts on its platform, including the account of major news outlet CNN.
"Our security team identified malicious actors attempting to compromise CNN’s TikTok account," stated Jason Grosse, a spokesperson for TikTok. "We’ve taken steps to secure the account and are working with CNN to restore full access and implement enhanced security measures."
Grosse emphasized TikTok’s commitment to platform integrity, stating they will "continue to monitor for any further inauthentic activity." CNN has yet to respond to requests for comment.
While details on the attack’s nature remain under investigation and the precise number of affected accounts remains undisclosed, TikTok confirmed it exploited the platform’s direct messaging feature. TikTok declined to provide details regarding the nature of the attack or the attackers’ identity.
The company is working with affected accounts to restore access, although Grosse declined to specify the total number targeted, stating only "a very few accounts were compromised."
Socialite and reality TV personality Paris Hilton’s account was reportedly targeted but not compromised. Despite being a target, Paris Hilton, boasting over 10 million followers, managed to retain control of her account.
