
Sango Family Dentistry, located in Clarksville, Tennessee, has confirmed that a cyberattack compromised the personal health information of up to 27,000 patients on its computer systems in August. The breach, detected on August 27, 2024, caused a disruption, after which the dental office moved swiftly to secure its systems and enlisted cybersecurity professionals to assess the incident.
A forensic investigation confirmed that an unknown actor accessed Sango Family Dentistry’s network on August 27 and exfiltrated files containing protected health information (PHI). A comprehensive review of the compromised data has been completed, revealing that patients’ PHI was stolen.
Information exposed in the breach may vary by individual. Still, it could include sensitive details such as name, date of birth, diagnosis and treatment information, Social Security number, driver’s license or state ID number, health insurance and billing data, and provider names.
Notification letters were sent to affected individuals with known mailing addresses on October 21, 2024. While there has been no indication of misuse of the compromised information so far, Sango Family Dentistry offers complimentary identity protection services to all impacted individuals to mitigate potential risks.
