Ransomware group Cicada3301 claims responsibility for Tri-Star Display data breach

The notorious ransomware group Cicada3301 has claimed responsibility for a substantial data breach at Singapore-based Tri-Star Display Pte Ltd. According to the group’s dark website, they have stolen over 95GB of data in an attack on July 26, 2024. Cicada3301 has released samples of the allegedly stolen data to support their claims. However, Tri-Star Display has not yet responded to inquiries, leaving the breach unverified.

Tri-Star Display, a subsidiary of the James King Group, specializes in event design and manufacturing product displays and signage for luxury brands. Since its establishment in 2009, the company has built a solid reputation for its work in marketing and PR events across Southeast Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. It also operates an office in Vietnam under the James King brand.

Should Cicada3301’s claims be confirmed, the breach could have significant consequences for Tri-Star Display. The stolen data could include sensitive information related to clients, projects, and internal operations, potentially leading to financial losses, reputational damage, and legal ramifications for Tri-Star Display and its parent group.

This incident is part of a broader trend of cyberattacks targeting high-profile companies. The Akira ransomware group recently claimed to have compromised data from Panasonic Australia. In response, Singaporean authorities issued an advisory urging companies not to comply with ransomware demands. A local law firm, Shook Lin & Bok, prompted this advisory, confirming the same group had attacked it.
