
MW Components, a prominent component and product manufacturer based in Charlotte, North Carolina, filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Texas on July 31 after discovering that an unauthorized party had gained access to specific information on its computer network.
The breach exposed sensitive consumer data, including names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account information, health insurance information, and medical records.
MW Components initiated an investigation to ascertain the extent of the cyberattack. The breach occurred between March 1, 2023, and March 26, 2023, when the company fell victim to a ransomware attack. In response, MW Components took swift action to secure its systems and immediately notified law enforcement to assist in the investigation.
Upon confirming the breach, MW Components carefully reviewed the compromised files to determine the nature and scope of the leaked information. This thorough review concluded on May 19, 2023. The company notified all individuals whose information had been exposed to the unauthorized party. Affected consumers were informed about the specific data that had been compromised.
