Jewett-Cameron Discloses Security Breach Affecting Confidential Data

Jewett-Cameron Trading Company recently reported a data security breach that exposed sensitive confidential information of the company.

Jewett-Cameron manufactures and distributes a variety of products, including specialty metal products for fencing and pet enclosures, and industrial wood products.

In a 8-K filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on October 15, Jewett-Cameron said it identified a data security incident where unauthorised threat actors infiltrated the company’s internal network and accessed certain systems.

The company immediately launched an investigation, with assistance from external cyber security experts, to determine the nature and scope of the incident. Jewett-Cameron also reported the incident to relevant law enforcement authorities and collaborated with them to resolve the matter at the earliest.

“Based on its investigation to date, the Company believes that the cybersecurity incident consisted of unauthorised access and deployment of encryption and monitoring software by a third party to a portion of the Company’s internal corporate IT systems.

“The incident caused disruptions and limitation of access to portions of the Company’s business applications supporting aspects of the Company’s operations and corporate functions, which the Company voluntarily took offline as a precautionary measure.

“Based on the information reviewed to date, the Company believes the unauthorised activity has been contained and is working diligently to bring the impacted portions of its IT systems and individual computer devices back online,” Jewett-Cameron said.

The company added that the threat actors gained unauthorised access to specific computer systems and extracted images from video meetings and computer screens, which could contain confidential Company information. These threat actors have demanded a monetary ransom and have threatened to publicly release the stolen data if their demands are not met.

Jewett-Cameron anticipates that the expenses related to the remediation efforts will largely be covered under its cybersecurity insurance policy. However, due to the prolonged disruption caused by the incident, the Company expects material impacts on its day-to-day operations. Consequently, this disruption could adversely affect the Company’s financial performance for the first quarter of fiscal year 2026.
