Mobile virtual network operator Total Wireless said that the data security incident one of its service providers suffered last year compromised the sensitive personal data of more than 8,000 customers.

MVNO provider Total Wireless disclosed that a data security incident last year at one of its service providers, Veriff, which provides identity verification services, exposed sensitive personal information of its customers.
Total Wireless is a Verizon-owned, prepaid, no-contract MVNO offering low-cost unlimited plans on Verizon’s nationwide 5G network, and is part of Verizon’s prepaid brand lineup alongside Straight Talk and Tracfone. Veriff is an identity verification provider that uses AI, ID documents, and selfies to help businesses prevent fraud and meet compliance requirements.
In a data security incident notice filed with the Office of Maine Attorney General, Total Wireless said that last year, Veriff notified them of an unauthorised activity within its internal network. The company immediately launched an investigation, with assistance from external cyber security experts, to determine the nature and scope of the incident.
“Veriff informed us that an unauthorised party obtained certain personal information relating to some Total Wireless customers from Veriff’s systems. Veriff provided us with information about the individuals who were impacted, including you, on December 10, 2025,” Total Wireless said.
The compromised data included names, images of government-issued IDs submitted to Veriff for identity verification related to a Total Wireless promotion, as well as postal addresses and dates of birth. The filing with the Maine state regulator’s office also states that Veriff has identified at least 8,583 individuals affected by the incident.
“Upon being made aware of the Veriff incident, we quickly began working with Veriff to identify affected individuals. We understand Veriff took steps to secure its systems, determined the nature of the issue and retained a cybersecurity firm to assist with the incident. Total Wireless has notified law enforcement authorities about this issue,” Total Wireless said.
The MVNO provider confirmed that the data security incident was limited to Veriff’s systems and did not affect any of Total Wireless’s systems.
Total Wireless has advised all affected individuals to regularly monitor their credit reports, account and benefit statements and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement authorities, including the police and the state attorney general.
It has also offered one year of complimentary identity protection and credit monitoring services through Experian to all affected individuals.
