The notorious LockBit ransomware group has claimed responsibility for a cyber attack on Canadian pharmacy and retail chain London Drugs and has threatened to publish all of the stolen information.
Earlier this month, London Drugs said that it “experienced an operational issue that has led to stores across Western Canada being closed until further notice.” Pharmacists, however, were on standby to support urgent pharmacy needs.
In a later post on X, the company said that on April 28, it suffered a significant cyber attack that forced it to close all its stores across Western Canada.
“Upon discovering the incident, London Drugs immediately undertook counter measures to protect its network and data, including retaining leading third-party cybersecurity experts to assist with containment, remediation and to conduct a forensic investigation,” reads the post.
“As a necessary part of its internal investigation, London Drugs phone lines have been temporarily taken down and will be restored as soon as possible. In the interim, Pharmacy staff are on-site at all London Drugs locations to support customers with urgent pharmacy needs,” the pharma company said.
Recently, the LockBit ransomware group claimed responsibility for the cyber attack on the pharmaceuticals company and listed it as a victim on its data leak site. After a failed ransom negotiation, the group has now threatened to publish the stolen data.

In a statement shared with BleepingComputer, the company said it is aware of the ransomware group’s claims, but it can’t pay the ransom demanded by the hacker group. The company also acknowledged that LockBit “may leak stolen London Drugs corporate files, some of which may contain employee information on the Dark Web.”
In an update, London Drugs said that it has reopened most of its pharmacy locations and “can accept new prescriptions, and refills of EXISTING prescriptions that are on file at your local London Drugs pharmacy.”
