French technology giant Atos Has denied suffering a cyber security incident after a hacker group claimed that it hacked into the company’s network and stole sensitive corporate data.
Last month, a group of threat actors going by the name “Space Bears” claimed that it hacked into the network of Atos and listed the company as a victim on its data leak site. The group said it gave Atos a deadline of January 7 to pay a ransom, failing which the stolen data would be leaked online.
Acknowledging the group’s claims, Atos said in a statement on its website that it was in the process of investigating the hackers’ claims.
“On December 28, 2024, the Space Bears ransomware group claimed to have compromised an Atos database. At this stage, the initial analysis shows no evidence of any compromise or ransomware affecting any Atos/Eviden systems in any country, and no ransom demand has been received to-date.
“Nevertheless, Atos takes such allegations very seriously. Its cybersecurity team is actively investigating the situation and updates will be provided if there is any change to the information above,” Atos said.
In a recent statement, Atos said the hacker group’s claims were false as its internal investigation found no evidence of a network infiltration. The hacker group had, in fact, breached the network infrastructure of a third party company but did not gain access to any Atos data.
“On December 28, 2024, the ransomware group claimed to have compromised an Atos database. Atos understands that external third-party infrastructure, unconnected to Atos, has been compromised by the group Space Bears. This infrastructure contained data mentioning the Atos company name, but is not managed nor secured by Atos,” the company said.
Atos added that the hacker group did not gain access to any company-owned infrastructure, nor was it able to steal any source codes, Atos IPs or Atos proprietary data.
