Patriot Mobile data breach exposes subscribers’ personal details

In a recent development, Patriot Mobile, a U.S.-based mobile virtual network operator known for its conservative stance, has faced a significant data breach. TechCrunch reported that the breach led to the exposure of personal information belonging to the carrier’s subscribers. The compromised data includes full names, account PINs, email addresses, and home ZIP codes.

The breach was brought to light when a hacker claimed responsibility for the incident and provided TechCrunch with a sample of the stolen data. Upon examination, TechCrunch confirmed the sample’s authenticity, partly due to a vulnerability in Patriot Mobile’s public website, which also leaked similar personal information.

Patriot Mobile, which touts itself as “America’s only Christian conservative wireless provider,” has not formally acknowledged the breach. The company, reportedly fewer than 100,000 subscribers, has been known for supporting conservative causes and candidates, particularly in Texas.

Patriot Mobile operates as a virtual network operator unlike traditional mobile carriers, leasing network infrastructure from larger providers like AT&T and T-Mobile. This breach follows a similar incident involving AT&T, where millions of customers’ personal and account information, including passcodes, were compromised. In response, AT&T promptly reset the account passcodes to prevent further breaches.
