French luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton said a data security incident it suffered earlier this month compromised the sensitive personal data of its Australian customers.

Recently, the Sky News reported that the luxury fashion house has sent an email to affected Australian customers, stating that on July 2, it learned about a breach when an unauthorised threat actor accessed its internal network and stole sensitive personal data of its Australian customers.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the compromised data included first names, last names, contact information, and additional information provided by customers. Louis Vuitton has, however, confirmed that the compromised database does not contain any passwords or financial information such as credit card, or bank account information.

“On July 2, 2025, we became aware of a personal data breach resulting from the exfiltration of certain personal data of some of our clients following an unauthorised access to our system.

“Technical measures were immediately taken to contain the incident after its occurrence, notably by blocking the unauthorised access. Louis Vuitton teams are mobilised to cooperate with the competent authorities which have been notified,” Louis Vuitton said in its email.

On July 17, Louis Vuitton Hong Kong notified the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) about a similar data security incident the company experienced last month.

According to PCPD, the incident compromised the sensitive personal data of around 419,000 customers. Louis Vuitton reported similar incidents over the past month which impacted customers in Turkey, South Korea, and the UK.

Turkey’s Personal Data Protection Board confirmed that the violation began on June 7, 2025, and was detected on July 2. The government agency also reported that 142,995 individuals were affected by the incident.

The breach resulted in the theft of sensitive personal data belonging to customers, which could potentially be exploited by cybercriminals. In all incidents, Louis Vuitton assured customers that no bank or credit card details were compromised.
