Texas-based healthcare services provider HMG Healthcare recently disclosed a significant data breach, impacting residents and employees in 40 nursing facilities across Texas and Kansas. The breach, which occurred in August, compromised sensitive information stored on the company’s server.
According to reports from SecurityWeek, attackers successfully exfiltrated unencrypted files containing individuals’ names, birthdates, Social Security numbers, contact details, employee records, and medical treatment information. While HMG Healthcare did not provide specific details regarding the nature of the attack or the number of people affected, the company assured the public that there was no indication of further compromise.
In a statement on their website, HMG Healthcare acknowledged the breach and mentioned their efforts to prevent the stolen files from being disseminated to other sources. Despite their attempts to identify the specific compromised data, the company stated that such identification is not feasible.
The healthcare provider is urging individuals whose data has been compromised to remain vigilant for suspicious activity in their credit reports and account statements. HMG Healthcare emphasized its commitment to addressing the breach and securing affected individuals’ information.
