The company has also blocked more than 100 million suspicious numbers from sending messages via RCS (Rich Communication Services), and rolled out global “safe link” warnings for URLs in messages flagged as spam.
Google’s analysis reveals the most common scam themes include bogus job-offers, fake invoices or subscription notifications, impersonation of government agencies, romance baiting and technical support fraud. Interestingly, many scams now arrive via group chat threads an evolution aimed at creating legitimacy by including a “trusted” participant
The geography and timing also matter: scammers tend to send most messages early Monday mornings (U.S. West time) and shift locations in response to enforcement measures, illustrating the persistent and adaptive nature of this threat.
