Data breach at Financial Business and Consumer Solutions (FBCS) exposes nearly 2 million individuals

Financial Business and Consumer Solutions (FBCS), a prominent debt collection agency in the United States, has notified approximately 1,955,385 individuals of a data breach after detecting unauthorized access to specific systems within its network.

The breach, discovered on February 26, 2024, occurred between February 14 and February 26, 2024, allowing unauthorized actors to access and potentially acquire sensitive information from FBCS’s network. The compromised data includes full names, Social Security Numbers (SSNs), dates of birth, account information, and driver’s license numbers or ID cards.

This breach poses a significant risk of exposing affected individuals to malicious activities such as phishing, fraud, and social engineering attacks. FBCS offers affected individuals 12 months of credit monitoring through Cyex to mitigate potential harm.

FBCS reassures that it has bolstered its security measures in a newly constructed environment to prevent similar incidents in the future. Despite the breach, no ransomware groups have claimed responsibility for the attack on FBCS.

Recipients of the breach notifications are urged to exercise caution against unsolicited communications and to diligently monitor their account statements and credit reports for any signs of suspicious activity.
