French Retailers Hit by Cyberattack, Customer Data Stolen

Several leading French retail brands, including Boulanger and Cultura, have confirmed that customer data was stolen in a recent cyberattack. The breach occurred late last week, affecting multiple companies, with more potentially undisclosed victims.

Boulanger, a major electronics and home appliance retailer, announced on Sunday that hackers had accessed delivery addresses of customers. The company stressed that no banking details were compromised and reassured customers that its websites and apps were functioning securely. A hacker, using the alias "horrormar44," claimed responsibility, posting samples of stolen data on the BreachForums website.

Cultura, a retailer of books, music, and arts supplies, also revealed that it was targeted. Hackers accessed data from 1.5 million customers, including names, contact information, and order details. Passwords and banking information were reportedly not affected. The breach was traced to an external IT service provider that suffered a malicious intrusion.

Both retailers have since taken measures to secure their systems and are cooperating with local authorities to investigate the attacks. Cultura has filed an official complaint.

Reports suggest that other retailers, such as gardening and home decor specialist Truffaut and clothing brand Pepe Jeans, may have also been affected. The hackers appear to have accessed customer information through a subcontractor’s database, including details such as delivery addresses and notes on parking near delivery locations.

The full extent of the breach remains unclear, but the incident highlights the growing threat to customer data across retail sectors.
