Head of Operational Security and Contingency Planning
Guy is an emergency management and security professional with over twenty-five years experience in the field. He joined Network Rail 3yrs ago where his responsibilities include the operational security of the rail network in England, Scotland and Wales, emergency/contingency planning for civil emergencies across the rail network and the security of critical infrastructure. He has also mentoring the top leadership team of a Gulf railway company on their business continuity and crisis management doctrine including designing policy and writing tactical manuals.
Prior to joining Network Rail Guy held several senior management positions in the UK Highways Agency Traffic Officer Service. Whilst with the Agency he gained extensive crisis command experience at both strategic and tactical level whilst leading the Agencyâ€™s response to major civil emergencies and public events. He used this experience to write the Agencyâ€™s first Crisis Management Manual that codified its national crisis/major incident response doctrine. He held responsibility for resilience planning and security for the strategic road network across seven UK counties.
Guy also has experience of security and transport risk consulting to national and international companies and government bodies and began his career as a police officer with the UK Metropolitan Police Service. He has previously worked on European projects in the field of transport harmonisation and currently Chairs the European (Rail) Infrastructure Managers (EIM) Security Working Group where he represents the interests of members at the European Union LANDSEC committee. Guy has spoken at several resilience, emergency management and security conferences
