Vital Imaging Confirms Data Breach Affecting 260,000 Patients’ Personal Information

Vital Imaging Medical Diagnostic Centers said that a data security incident earlier this year exposed the sensitive personal information of approximately 260,000 individuals.

 

Vital Imaging is a South Florida-based diagnostic imaging center offering various services like MRI, X-ray, CT scans, and mammograms to help doctors diagnose medical conditions and evaluate treatments by providing detailed internal images of the body.

 

In a data security incident notice published on its website, Vital Imaging said that on February 13, it detected suspicious activity within its internal network. The diagnostic imaging center immediately launched an investigation, with assistance from external cyber security experts, to determine the nature and scope of the incident.

 

“As of July 16, 2025, the investigation has progressed to a stage where there is a reasonable belief that certain PHI and/or PII was accessed and acquired,” Vital Imaging said.

 

The compromised data included names, contact information, dates of birth, medical information and insurance information. The incident was reported to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where Vital Imaging said it has identified at least 260,000 individuals impacted by the incident.

 

“While our investigation remains ongoing, Vital Imaging believes it’s important to keep our community informed so individuals may take precautionary steps to protect their information,” the diagnostic imaging center added.

 

Vital Imaging has advised all affected individuals to regularly monitor their credit reports, account and benefit statements and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement authorities, including the police and the state attorney general.

 

At the time of publishing, no known hacker group claimed responsibility for the cyber attack on Vital Imaging. The diagnostic imaging center also did not share details on who was behind the attack, how much data was compromised, or whether it had received a ransom demand.
