Swedish security company Verisure, a major provider of alarm and monitoring services across Europe and South America, is investigating a data breach that exposed information belonging to thousands of its Alert Alarm customers in Sweden.
The company said it recently discovered that an unauthorized party gained access to customer data stored on the servers of an external invoicing partner. The breach appears to have affected systems supporting only Alert Alarm, Verisure’s division that provides home and small-business protection services against intrusions, fire, and medical emergencies.
Preliminary findings indicate that the incident impacted roughly 35,000 current and former Alert Alarm users in Sweden. According to Verisure, the attacker accessed limited customer information, including names, addresses, email addresses, and Social Security numbers.
“It is important to point out that forensic analysis has so far not identified any sign of intrusion within Verisure’s own networks or systems,” the company said in a public statement. “Our overall investigation has so far indicated that the incident only affected a third-party billing system that only serves Alert Alarm’s customers.”
Verisure reported that fewer than 6,000 active customers currently have an Alert Alarm subscription in Sweden. The company has notified the police and relevant data protection authorities and continues to work with external cybersecurity experts to assess the scope of the breach.
The data security incident comes just weeks after Verisure’s initial public offering, which raised €3.2 billion and valued the company at €13.7 billion, marking Europe’s largest IPO since 2022.
Verisure, headquartered in Stockholm, provides professionally monitored alarm and security services to more than 5.8 million customers across Europe and South America, including markets such as France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Brazil.
