Treasure Coast Hospice Reports Data Breach Affecting Staff Information

Florida-based Treasure Coast Hospice announced that a data security incident at one of its service providers last year compromised the sensitive personal information of its staff.

 

In a data security incident notice filed with the Office of Maine Attorney General, Treasure Coast Hospice said that on September 25, 2024, it was notified of unauthorised activity at a third-party service provider responsible for handling its email services. The company immediately launched an investigation, with assistance from external cyber security experts, to determine the nature and scope of the incident.

 

“The forensic investigation concluded that an account containing personal information may have been subject to unauthorised access,” Treasure Coast Hospice said.

 

The compromised data included names, Social Security Numbers, dates of birth, mobile numbers, driver licence details, email addresses, identity card details,insurance policy numbers, insurance provider details, login usernames and passwords, and more. 

 

The filing with the Maine state regulator’s office also states that Treasure Coast Hospice has identified at least 13,234 individuals affected by the incident.

 

“Since the discovery of the Incident,Treasure Health has taken additional steps to reduce the risk of this type of event occurring in the future by restructuring and enhancing our technical security measures and procedures,” Treasure Coast Hospice added.

 

While the hospice found no evidence of the compromise data being misused, it has advised all affected individuals to regularly monitor their credit reports, account and benefit statements and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement authorities, including the police and the state attorney general. 

 

It has also offered one year of complimentary identity protection and credit monitoring services through Cyberscout to all affected individuals.
