T-Mobile data leak exposed customers' personal and card details online

T-Mobile suffered yet another data leak that came to light after the telecom giant’s customers started reporting that they could see other peoples’ details after logging in to their accounts.According to social news aggregator site Reddit, the news of the data leak started pouring in around 3AM Eastern Standard Time when customers reported that they were able to view other peoples’ information on the “Bill” tab. Not only this, the “More” tab, where payment details and other sensitive data is stored, was also showing other peoples’ information. The compromised information includes customers’ names, phone numbers, addresses, account balances, credit card details along with its expiration dates and the last four digits. In fact, The Verge reported that some T-Mobile customers were able to view personal confidential information of several other customers in their accounts. One such astonished customer posted, “Wife took this screen shot . Who the hell is David ??? I should give him a call and let these people know since we could see all there info!”

Another customer posted, “@TMobile WHY AM I ABLE TO SEE SOMEONE ELSES AT LEAST THREE DIFFERENT ACCOUNTS INFORMATION WHEN I OPEN MY T-MOBILE APP?! IS MY INFO SAFE?!"Some customers even reported that they have been facing this issue for at least 2 weeks.“Reported this issue when it first popped up here on Reddit over 2 weeks ago and sent pics of the other person’s info to their security team. No response, but wow, just wow,” one customer said. Acknowledging the reports of the data leak, T-Mobile said that this issue was a result of a technical glitch and not a cyber attack.“There was no cyberattack or breach at T-Mobile. This was a temporary system glitch related to a planned overnight technology update involving limited account information for fewer than 100 customers, which was quickly resolved,” the company said in a statement. This is the second data security incident T-Mobile suffered this year. In January, the wireless carrier suffered another significant data breach that affected 37 million customers.
