Sibanye Stillwater delays releasing results after cyberattack

(Reuters) -  Sibanye Stillwater will release half-year financial results on Sept. 12, two weeks later than scheduled, after a cyberattack on its IT system caused limited disruption to its global operations, the diversified mining company said on Thursday.

The Johannesburg-based precious metals miner said its systems had now been largely restored after the cyberattack reported on July 11.

"Although the cyber-attack has had limited impact on our core operations, it caused temporary system outages which resulted in the implementation of back-up manual processes on certain systems at the operations," Sibanye said in a statement.

Although Sibanye’s mining and extraction operations suffered minimal disruption, its Columbus metallurgical complex at the U.S. PGM operations has experienced some short-term operational delays, due to IT outages.

This has affected the smelting of underground concentrate and the recycling of spent autocatalysts, Sibanye said, adding  the built-up stockpiles were expected to be processed "in due course".

Sibanye mines platinum and gold in South Africa. It also operates a palladium mine in the U.S. state of Montana and has lithium, nickel and zinc projects in Finland, France and Australia.
