The SafePay ransomware group has claimed that it hacked into the internal network of IT services giant Conduent and stole 8.5TB of confidential data.
Headquartered in Florham Park, New Jersey, Conduent is an enterprise IT services giant that caters to half of Fortune 100 companies and more than 600 government and transportation agencies.
Last month, the company said it suffered an operational outage that affected its clients’ ability to take payments via electronic transfer or EBT cards. In a statement shared with the media, a company spokesperson said that the operational outage was caused by a significant “cyber security incident.”
“This incident was contained and all systems have been restored. Maintaining system integrity and functionality is as important to us as it is to our clients,” the company told BleepingComputer.
Recently, the SafePay ransomware group claimed responsibility for the cyber attack on Conduent and listed it as a victim on its data leak site. The group claims to be in possession of 8.5TB of confidential data stolen from the company and has given a deadline of 2 days for Conduent to meet its ransom demands. The group has threatened to leak the stolen data if Conduent fails to pay the ransom.

Responding to the claims of the threat actor, in a statement shared with Comparitech, a company spokesperson said, “As we shared in January, Conduent experienced an operational disruption due to a compromise of one of our technology operating systems.
“This compromise was quickly contained, and our technology environment continues to be free of known malicious activity as confirmed by our third-party security experts.
“Working with our incident response partners and law enforcement officials, we continue to investigate the unauthorised access and review any possible data exposures. Maintaining system integrity and functionality is as important to us as it is to our clients,” the spokesperson added.
