REIC Rentals discloses data breach exposing names and social security numbers

REIC Rentals LLC, a Denver-based equipment rental company also operating under the name Rental Equipment Investment Corp., has disclosed that an unauthorized third party gained access to its computer network and potentially obtained the personal information of an undisclosed number of individuals.

The company, founded in 2014 and headquartered in Kalispell, Montana, detected unusual activity on certain systems within its network and launched an investigation. That review determined that unauthorized access took place between Feb. 3 and Feb. 5, 2026, during which an unknown party accessed or opened certain files. A preliminary review of the affected data was completed Feb. 23, 2026.

The personal information potentially exposed in the incident includes names and Social Security numbers. REIC did not disclose the total number of individuals affected.

The company began sending notifications to affected individuals on or about April 7, 2026, and disclosed the breach to the Nebraska Attorney General. REIC has offered affected individuals 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring through Experian IdentityWorks. To enroll, recipients must visit the Experian IdentityWorks enrollment page and enter the activation code provided in their notification letter before June 30, 2026, after which the code will expire.

REIC Rentals operates a large fleet of general and specialty rental equipment, including aerial lifts, earthmoving machinery, power tools, compressors, and HVAC systems. The company serves industries including construction, healthcare, energy, and infrastructure, and has expanded to 55 locations across the United States and Canada since its founding.
