Radiology network in New York investigates unauthorized access to patient data

Associated Radiologists of the Finger Lakes, a network of interventional and diagnostic radiology centers serving Elmira, New York, and surrounding communities, is investigating unauthorized access to a portion of its computer network that may have exposed sensitive patient information.

The incident was detected on Oct. 30, 2025, when the organization identified anomalous activity within its systems. An internal investigation determined that an unauthorized party accessed a subset of the network between Oct. 28 and Oct. 30, 2025. During that period, certain files containing patient information may have been viewed or copied.

The organization, formally known as Associated Radiologists of the Finger Lakes, secured the affected systems after discovering the activity, isolated impacted files, and launched a comprehensive investigation. Third-party forensic specialists were engaged to review the files involved and determine the full scope of the incident. That review remains ongoing.

While the file analysis is not yet complete, information collected to date indicates the potentially affected data includes patient names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, medical record numbers, clinical and treatment information, medical procedure details, provider names, prescription information, and health insurance information. Biometric identifiers may also have been involved in some cases. Payment card data and bank account information were not affected.

The organization stated that notification letters will be sent to affected individuals once the file review is finalized and the impacted data types are fully confirmed.

In response to the incident, Associated Radiologists of the Finger Lakes reported that it has reviewed and enhanced its technical, administrative, and physical safeguards, along with relevant policies and procedures, to reduce the risk of similar events in the future. The investigation into the unauthorized access continues.
