North Miami City Hall will reopen on Monday, August 12, offering limited services as city officials continue to address the aftermath of a cyberattack that disrupted city operations. The incident was linked to the unauthorized access of Mayor Alix Desulme’s Gmail account, potentially compromising sensitive information.
In a message to city residents on Sunday, Mayor Desulme disclosed that the cyberattack led to the theft of personal information, including his passport, bank, credit card details, and private images. He assured residents that the breach was confined to his accounts and did not involve the City of North Miami’s systems.
"I want to emphasize that this violation involved my accounts, not those of the City of North Miami," Mayor Desulme stated. "While I have been briefed on the situation, I have yet to see or be able to verify the extent of the information that was compromised."
Despite the personal nature of the breach, Mayor Desulme reiterated his commitment to serving the North Miami community with transparency and dedication. He also highlighted the city’s efforts to provide updates and take all necessary measures to protect the integrity of its systems.
City Hall’s reopening on Monday marks a step toward normalcy, though services will be limited as the city staff works to fully restore operations. Residents are encouraged to remain patient during this transitional period.
The breach is under investigation by federal authorities, though it remains unclear whether any personal data of residents or city employees was exposed. A hotline has been established for residents with questions at 305-895-9804. Mayor Desulme expressed his gratitude for his support and assured the community that all efforts are being made to secure personal and city data moving forward.
