Monopoly maker Hasbro reports employee data breach

American toy giant Hasbro said a data security incident it identified earlier this year resulted in the compromise of sensitive employee information.

 

Headquartered in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Hasbro is a major American toy and entertainment company behind brands including Monopoly, Scrabble, Nerf, Play-Doh, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Dungeons & Dragons and more.

 

In a data security incident notice, Hasbro reported that earlier this year it detected unauthorised access within its internal network. The company immediately launched an investigation, with assistance from external cyber security experts, to determine the nature and scope of the incident. 

 

It took immediate action to secure the affected network, and notified relevant law enforcement authorities about the incident.

 

The investigation found that sensitive personal data, including names, email and physical addresses, phone numbers, national identification numbers, and financial information was compromised in the incident.

 

“Hasbro implemented containment and remediation measures, including disabling the compromised employee account, terminating unauthorised access, and deploying additional safeguards designed to help prevent a similar incident from occurring in the future,” Hasbro said in its filing with the Massachusetts state regulator.

 

The toy making giant has advised all affected individuals to regularly monitor their credit reports, account and benefit statements and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement authorities, including the police and the state attorney general. 

 

At the time of publishing, no known hacker group claimed responsibility for the cyber attack on Hasbro. The company also did not share details on who was behind the attack, how much data was compromised, or whether it had received a ransom demand.
