Masimo restores production, delivery commitments remain unaffected

American health technology and consumer electronics company Masimo said it has successfully restored key systems at its manufacturing facility and is now fulfilling orders on schedule.

Headquartered in Irvine, California, Masimo manufactures patient monitoring devices and technologies, including non-invasive patient monitoring products like pulse oximeters, brain function monitors, patient management systems, and remote patient monitoring platforms.

On May 6, in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Masimo said that on April 27, it identified unauthorised activity within its internal network and immediately launched an investigation, with assistance from external cyber security experts, to determine the nature and scope of the incident.

The company activated its incident response protocols, implemented containment measures and notified relevant law enforcement authorities to resolve the incident at the earliest.

“As a result of the incident, certain of the Company’s manufacturing facilities have been operating at less than normal levels, and the Company’s ability to process, fulfil, and ship customer orders timely has been temporarily impacted.

“The Company has been working diligently to bring the affected portions of its network back online, restore normal business operations and mitigate the impact of the incident,” Masimo said in its SEC filing.

On May 27, in a recent filing with the SEC, the medical device manufacturer said it has restored key systems of its manufacturing unit and does not anticipate the security incident to have a material impact on its revenue for fiscal year 2025.

“At this time, the Company’s manufacturing operations are running at near full capacity, and the Company’s critical order taking, distribution and shipping systems are fully operational. The company is continuing to optimise this system so that any delayed orders are processed in a timely manner.

“The Company maintains cybersecurity insurance, and expects that the majority of out-of-pocket remediation costs incurred by the Company in connection with the incident will be covered by such insurance, and that any such costs will be non-recurring in nature,” Masimo added.

At the time of publishing, no known hacker group claimed responsibility for the cyber attack on Masimo. The medical device manufacturer also did not share whether it has received a ransom demand.
