KFC Japan has suspended all online ordering and delivery services after a cyberattack on Nichirei Corp., the logistics provider responsible for distributing key ingredients including chicken to its restaurants, disrupted deliveries across the country and raised the prospect of shortages, reduced hours and temporary store closures.
The disruption traces back to an unauthorized intrusion into Nichirei’s systems, which the company disclosed had affected its logistics operations and the shipment of frozen foods and other products. KFC Japan said the attack occurred on July 13, 2026, when the outsourced provider suffered a system failure tied to the unauthorized access, and that the resulting outage at its logistics and distribution centers began preventing normal food deliveries to KFC restaurants on July 14.
KFC Japan said every one of its restaurant locations nationwide could be affected, with customers potentially encountering out-of-stock menu items, limited product availability, shortened business hours or, in some cases, temporary closures depending on inventory levels at individual stores. The chain said it may need to limit menu offerings, shorten operating hours or temporarily shut some restaurants entirely while the ingredient shortages persist.
Beyond in-store impacts, KFC Japan has shut down its digital ordering channels, including its official mobile app, its website ordering platform, its own delivery service and integrations with third-party delivery platforms. The company has not said when those services will resume, stating only that the timeline remains unclear while Nichirei works to restore its affected systems.
KFC Japan has not disclosed the specific nature of the cyberattack, including whether ransomware was involved, and its public statements do not indicate whether customer or employee data was compromised. The company said it is coordinating with Nichirei and other business partners to restore deliveries and return store operations to normal as quickly as possible.
