Jackson National Life discloses data breach exposing Social Security numbers

Jackson National Life Insurance Co., a Lansing, Michigan-based financial services company, disclosed a data breach that exposed customers’ names and Social Security numbers, according to a notice filed with Massachusetts regulators.

Jackson said it determined on Sept. 17, 2026, that personal information belonging to certain individuals had been disclosed. The company reported the breach to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation and sent notification letters to affected individuals on Sept. 23, 2026. According to a separate filing by the law firm Federman & Sherwood, the breach affected one Massachusetts resident, with additional individuals potentially affected nationwide.

Jackson, which specializes in annuity and individual life insurance products and provides retirement planning products including annuities for retail investors and fixed income products for institutional investors, has not disclosed further details about how the breach occurred.

The company is offering affected individuals a complimentary two-year membership to Experian’s IdentityWorks identity protection program. Enrollment is available through the Experian IdentityWorks website using an activation code included in the notification letter, with a deadline of July 22, 2027. Individuals who have questions about the program, need help with identity restoration, or prefer an alternative to online enrollment can contact Experian’s customer care team by phone.

Jackson advised affected individuals to remain vigilant about their personal information and to promptly report any suspicious activity related to their Jackson accounts. The company said questions about the breach or related account concerns can be directed to its customer service center by phone or email.

Shamis & Gentile and Federman & Sherwood, two law firms specializing in data breach cases, said they are investigating the Jackson breach.
