INC ransomware group claims major data theft at Alder Hey Children's Hospital

West Derby, Liverpool-based Alder Hey Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is investigating a possible data security incident after the INC Ransom group claimed that it breached the trust’s network and stole confidential data.

 

Recently, the infamous INC Ransom ransomware group said it has infiltrated the internal network of Alder Hey Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and stole sensitive data dating back to 2018.

 

According to screenshots shared on X, the cyber criminals published samples of the stolen data to prove the authenticity of their claims, including patient records, donor reports, procurement data and more.

 

 

Acknowledging the claims of INC Ransom ransomware group, a spokesperson for the Alder Hey NHS foundation said that the trust is investigating the hacker group’s claims.

 

“We are aware that data has been published online and shared via social media that purports to have been obtained illegally from systems shared by Alder Hey and Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We are working with partners to verify the data that has been published and to understand the potential impact.

 

“We are taking this issue very seriously and are working with the National Crime Agency as well as partner organisations to secure our systems and to take further steps in line with law enforcement advice as well as our statutory duties relating to patient data,” reads the statement.

 

The spokesperson has, however, clarified that this is an isolated incident and is not connected to the ongoing data security incident at the Wirral University Teaching Hospitals. Alder Hey added that its services are operating as normal and patients should attend appointments as usual.
