Hackers claim breach of Scania’s corporate insurance arm, allegedly stealing 34,000 files

Scania, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of commercial vehicles, has reportedly fallen victim to a cyberattack, with hackers claiming to have stolen tens of thousands of internal documents from the company’s corporate insurance division.

The alleged breach surfaced on a restricted-access hacker forum frequented by cybercriminals for trading stolen data. In a post published by the attackers, they assert that they successfully infiltrated Scania’s corporate insurance infrastructure and exfiltrated 34,000 confidential files previously unavailable to the public.

At this time, the specific contents of the stolen files remain unknown. However, given the nature of corporate insurance operations at Scania, the data may include sensitive information related to customers, including details such as vehicle identification numbers (VINs) and commercial vehicle ownership.

Scania’s official website currently displays a maintenance notice on the VabisLine system, the platform allegedly targeted in the breach. The message reads, “We are currently performing maintenance on the VabisLine system. The system has been temporarily taken offline.” It is not confirmed whether this downtime is directly connected to the reported cyber incident.

Efforts to contact Scania for comment on the incident are ongoing, and the company has yet to release an official statement addressing the allegations.

With approximately 59,000 employees worldwide and annual revenues surpassing $22 billion in 2024, Scania holds a substantial 19% share of the European commercial vehicle market, according to its first-quarter 2025 financial report. Its scale and global footprint make it a high-value target for cybercriminal groups.

The automotive sector continues to face mounting pressure from sophisticated cyber threats. Earlier this month, hackers also claimed responsibility for a breach involving the Volkswagen Group, further highlighting the persistent risk faced by multinational manufacturers holding vast amounts of sensitive customer and corporate data.
