Global companies deal with 51 security incidents every day

A new report from cybersecurity company Trellix has revealed that a global company’s average security operations (SecOps) team has to deal with 51 cybersecurity incidents per day.

 

For its most recent study, XDR: Redefining the Future of Cybersecurity, the security vendor surveyed 9000 security decision makers from companies with 500+ employees across 15 markets.

 

36% of respondents claimed they deal with 50 to 200 daily incidents. 46% agreed they are “inundated by a never-ending stream of cyber-attacks.”

 

The study claimed that part of the problem is the siloed nature of security and detection and response systems. According to 60% of respondents, Inefficiently integrated products prevent teams from working effectively, while 34% acknowledged having blind spots. 60% acknowledged they could not keep up with the rapidly changing nature of security threats.

 

84% of the security decision-makers contacted by Trellix estimated that security breaches cost their company up to 10% of revenue in the previous year. The average revenue loss for medium-sized businesses ($50-$100 million in revenue) was 8%, compared to 5% for large businesses ($10 billion to $25 billion in revenue). Each year, insufficient SecOps result in the waste of hundreds of millions of dollars.

 

Several studies have already shown that inadequate SecOps can take a physical and mental toll on SecOps analysts, leading to poor threat detection and response outcomes. Half of the SecOps analysts admitted turning off alerts, walking away from their computer, hoping another team member would step in, or ignoring alerts entirely.
