Pepsi Bottling Ventures, an independent bottling company, fell victim to a data breach impacting over 28,000 individuals. The breach between December 23, 2022, and January 19, 2023 resulted in unauthorized access to personal, financial, and health information belonging to the company’s employees.
The discovery of the breach occurred on January 10, and on February 10, Pepsi Bottling Ventures commenced notifying the affected individuals about the incident. While the initial announcement did not disclose the exact number of individuals impacted, the company recently informed the Maine Attorney General’s Office regarding the breach, confirming the involvement of over 28,000 individuals.
The compromised data encompasses a wide range of sensitive information, including names, addresses, email addresses, financial account details, identification numbers, driver’s license numbers, Social Security numbers, digital signatures, medical history particulars, and health insurance information. Both current and former employees, as well as contractors, have been affected by this security breach.
Pepsi Bottling Ventures has taken immediate action to bolster the security of its network in response to the breach. As a precautionary measure, the company has initiated a comprehensive company-wide password reset, ensuring the protection of all employee and partner accounts within its network.
In communication with the impacted individuals, Pepsi Bottling Ventures urged them to promptly change their usernames, passwords, and security question answers for any accounts or account information associated with the company. This step is aimed at mitigating potential risks arising from the compromised data. No evidence suggests that the accessed information has been misused thus far.
