Data Breach at American National Bank & Trust Exposes Personal Information of Over 50,000 Individuals

American National Bank & Trust said the data security incident it suffered earlier this year compromised the sensitive personal data of more than 50,000 individuals.

 

Headquartered in Wichita Falls, Texas, American National Bank & Trust is a financial institution offering a range of banking and financial services including personal and business banking, wealth management, and trust administration.

 

In a data security incident notice published on its website, American National Bank & Trust said that on  January 22, it detected suspicious activity within its internal network. The financial institution immediately launched an investigation, with assistance from external cyber security experts, to determine the nature and scope of the incident.

 

It also took steps to secure the affected network and notified relevant law enforcement authorities about the incident.

 

“The investigation determined that an unauthorised actor gained access to our network and accessed files on some of our computer systems between January 21 and 22, 2025,” the bank said.

 

The compromised data included names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, tax identification numbers, driver’s license or state identification card numbers, passport numbers, financial account information, payment card information, certain medical information and more. 

 

In a filing with the office of Texas Attorney General, American National Bank & Trust said it has identified at least 52,020 individuals impacted by the incident.

 

The financial institution has advised all affected individuals to regularly monitor their credit reports, account and benefit statements and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement authorities, including the police and the state attorney general. 

 

It has also offered complimentary identity protection and credit monitoring services through Epiq to all affected individuals.

 

At the time of publishing, no known hacker group claimed responsibility for the cyber attack on American National Bank & Trust. The financial institution also did not share details on who was behind the attack, how much data was compromised, or whether it has received a ransom demand.
