North Carolina-based technology consulting firm Zeroed-In Technologies said it experienced a significant data security incident in August last year that compromised data associated with its business clients.
According to a customer filing with the Office of Maine Attorney General, the technology consulting firm identified suspicious activities in its internal network on August 8 and launched an investigation, with assistance from external cyber security experts, to determine the nature and scope of the incident.
According to the company’s investigation, an unauthorised party gained access to the company’s computer systems between August 7 and 8, 2023. After an intensive review which concluded on August 31 last year, Zeroed-In Technologies notified all its clients that the sensitive personal information of individuals associated with the clients were compromised during the data security incident.
The compromised data included names, dates of birth, and Social Security Numbers. Zeroed-In Technologies is yet to share the number of affected individuals with the Maine state regulator.
Upon discovery of the event, Zeroed-In Technologies took steps to secure its systems and notified law enforcement about the same. It also implemented additional security measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.
The data security incident at Zeroed-In Technologies also affected discount retail giant Dollar Tree. The incident affected 1,977,486 people, including data of employees from Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stores, both entities under Dollar Tree’s umbrella with a combined reach of 23,000 locations across the United States and Canada.
