Caldwell Sutter Capital discloses data breach tied to third-party software provider

Caldwell Sutter Capital Inc., an investment management firm based in Sausalito, California, has disclosed a data breach originating from a cyberattack on one of its third-party software providers, FoxTrot LLC, that compromised the personal information of 663 U.S. individuals.

An unauthorized party gained access to FoxTrot’s systems on April 22, 2026. FoxTrot provides software solutions supporting Caldwell Sutter Capital’s back-office operations. The vendor notified Caldwell Sutter Capital of the incident seven days later, on April 29, 2026.

Following that notification, Caldwell Sutter Capital said it began working with FoxTrot to determine the nature and extent of the breach, assess the impact on its data and confirm that containment and remediation steps had been taken. The company said the investigation remains ongoing.

Personal information exposed in the breach included names, account numbers, Social Security numbers and financial account codes. Caldwell Sutter Capital notified affected consumers on May 29, 2026, and reported the breach to attorneys general in Maine, Massachusetts and Vermont.

As part of its response, the company is offering affected individuals 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services through Experian IdentityWorks. The package includes credit monitoring across all three major bureaus, dark web surveillance for personal information, identity restoration support and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance. Eligible individuals can enroll through the Experian IdentityWorks enrollment page using the activation code provided in their notification letter. Enrollment must be completed by Sept. 30, 2026.
