Boyd Gaming Corporation Reports Data Breach Exposing Employees’ Sensitive Information

Boyd Gaming Corporation, a prominent American gaming company, recently reported a data security breach that exposed sensitive personal information of several of its employees.

 

Headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada, Boyd Gaming is an American gambling and hospitality company that owns and operates 28 gaming properties across ten states, including California, Nevada, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

 

In a 8-K filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on September 23, Boyd Gaming said it identified a data security incident where unauthorised threat actors infiltrated the company’s internal network and accessed certain systems.

 

The company immediately launched an investigation, with assistance from external cyber security experts, to determine the nature and scope of the incident. Boyd Gaming also reported the incident to relevant law enforcement authorities and collaborated with them to resolve the matter at the earliest.

 

“The Company has determined that the unauthorised third party removed certain data from the Company’s IT systems, including information about employees and a limited number of other individuals. The Company is notifying impacted individuals and has or will notify its various regulators and other governmental agencies as required,” Boyd Gaming said.

 

The gambling company added that the cyber security incident did not impact the company’s properties or business operations.

 

“As of the date of this filing, the Company believes that the incident will not have a material adverse effect on the Company’s financial condition or results of operations. 

 

“The Company maintains a comprehensive cybersecurity insurance policy, which we expect will cover costs associated with incident response and forensic investigations, as well as business interruptions, legal actions and regulatory fines, if any, subject to policy limits and deductibles,” Boyd Gaming added.
