Reports have surfaced online alleging that customer data from Bank Central Asia (BCA) has been compromised following a cyberattack by an individual claiming to be the notorious hacker Bjorka. The claims, which appeared on the X account @bjorkanesiaaa, suggested that sensitive customer information had been accessed and potentially leaked.
"We have successfully hacked your BCA bank account. You need to keep updating your system. This is just a reminder to prioritize security and protect user privacy in your country," the account posted, accompanied by screenshots allegedly showing customer account data. Additionally, another X account, @TweetThreatNews, shared images implying that Bjorka was selling BCA customer data on the dark web.
In response, BCA has categorically denied these allegations, calling them baseless and assuring customers that their data remains secure.
"We assure you that customer data remains secure," said Hera F. Haryn, EVP of Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility at BCA, in an official statement on Thursday, February 6, 2025. "Regarding the information on social media claiming the spread of BCA customer data, we state that the information is incorrect."
BCA emphasized implementing robust security measures, including multi-layered protection strategies, to safeguard customer data and digital transactions. "Necessary risk mitigation efforts are also carried out to ensure data and transaction security," Hera added.
This is not the first time that rumors regarding BCA customer data being leaked on the dark web have circulated. The latest claims suggest that the hacker group Bjorka has accessed 890,000 accounts and 4.9 million database entries belonging to BCA customers. The group further warned of potential ransomware attacks on central Indonesian banks, urging financial institutions and customers to exercise caution.
The X account @bjorkanesiaaa directly mentioned BCA’s official account: "@BankBCA a surprise for the banking industry in Indonesia. If they do not immediately respond, BCA will experience massive data breaches."
Despite these warnings, BCA has reiterated its commitment to data security. "At present, we ensure that customer data remains secure," Hera affirmed, advising customers to be cautious of phishing attempts and fraudulent activities.
