
North American multi-location automobile dealership group AutoCanada said it is investigating a data security incident after malicious actors infiltrated its internal network and affected some operations.
In a data security incident notice published on its website, the Edmonton, Alberta-based automobile dealership said that on August 11, it identified a data security incident that involved malicious actors infiltrating its internal network.
“Immediately upon detecting the incident, AutoCanada took action to safeguard its network and data. This included engaging with leading cybersecurity experts to assist us with containment and remediation efforts, as well as to conduct a thorough investigation to understand the scope and impact of the incident,” AutoCanada said.
The dealership added that it is yet to completely identify the nature and scope of the incident.
“As the investigation is ongoing, the full scope, nature and impact of the incident, including the extent to which any customer, supplier or employee data has been accessed is not yet known,” AutoCanada added. “Although our business operations remain open at this time, the incident may result in disruptions until the relevant systems are fully restored.”
The company is yet to share details on how the hackers infiltrated its internal network, if any personal identifiable data has been compromised, or who is behind the cyber attack. Also, at the time of writing, no hacker group has claimed responsibility for the cyber attack.
