Asahi halts Japan shipments after cyberattack disrupts operations

Asahi Group Holdings Ltd., a leading global beverage company known for its Asahi and Peroni beer brands, suspended some shipments in Japan on Monday after a cyberattack crippled parts of its domestic operations.

The Tokyo-based company said a system failure caused by the attack forced it to halt order and shipment activities across its group companies in Japan, including customer service call centers. The disruption, which began around 7 a.m. local time on September 29, remains confined to Japan, and the company has not provided a timeline for resuming normal operations.

Asahi stressed that no personal or client data leaks have been confirmed. It has not disclosed whether the attackers demanded a ransom or revealed how the breach occurred.

The incident places Asahi among a growing list of consumer goods and retail businesses hit by cybercrime in 2025. Earlier this year, Russian distiller Novabev Group, Danish dairy producer Arla Foods, and German drinks company Oettinger all disclosed cyberattacks. In the United Kingdom, retailer Co-op Group reported an £80 million ($107 million) hit to its half-year profits after an April attack, while Marks & Spencer, Harrods, and supermarket chain Co-op also suffered disruptions.

The manufacturing sector has also been hard hit. Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Plc announced Monday that it expects to restore operations “in the coming days” after a ransomware attack shuttered factories in the UK, Slovakia, India, and Brazil since early September.

Asahi has not confirmed when its Japanese shipments will resume. The company said it continues to investigate the incident while working to restore systems.
