Argentina’s airport security police (PSA) have fallen victim to a cyberattack, compromising the personal and financial information of its officers and civilian staff. The attack, which occurred through a vulnerability in Banco Nación’s payroll processing system, led to fraudulent deductions from employee salaries.
The attackers reportedly siphoned small amounts of money, ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 pesos ($100 to $245), from PSA staff salaries. These deductions were disguised with false labels such as "DD mayor" and "DD seguros." Local media sources suggest that the operation could have been carried out from either within Argentina or abroad, potentially involving internal accomplices.
The PSA has responded by blocking some of its services and launching an internal cybersecurity awareness initiative, though the precise motivations behind the attack—whether financial or political—remain unclear. Neither the PSA nor Banco Nación has officially commented on the breach or acknowledged the incident publicly.
This attack follows a series of high-profile cyber incidents in Argentina. In December, hackers breached two government platforms, exposing millions of citizens’ personal data. Earlier in the year, Telecom Argentina was targeted by a ransomware attack, and there were also claims of a breach at the Central Bank of Argentina.
The latest breach highlights the growing threat of cybercrime targeting critical infrastructure, with Argentine authorities facing increasing pressure to bolster their cybersecurity measures.
