Aerospace and defense giant RTX Corp. discloses data breach exposing social security numbers

RTX Corp., an American aerospace and defense conglomerate, has begun notifying individuals that a security incident exposed their personal information, including Social Security numbers, according to a filing with the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation.

The company reported the breach to Massachusetts regulators on July 24, 2026, one day after it started mailing written notices to those affected. RTX said the underlying security incident took place on June 25, 2026.

Following discovery of the incident, RTX launched an internal investigation to identify the scope of the exposure and determine which categories of personal data had been compromised. That investigation concluded that the affected information included full names, mailing addresses and Social Security numbers.

RTX has not disclosed publicly how the breach occurred or whether it has identified those responsible.

In response, the company is providing affected individuals with 24 months of complimentary enrollment in Equifax Complete Premier, a credit monitoring and identity protection service. Individuals who received a notification letter can activate the coverage through Equifax’s enrollment portal using a unique code included in their letter. The enrollment window closes Oct. 31, 2026.

RTX Corp. is one of the world’s largest aerospace and defense contractors. The company was formerly known as Raytheon Technologies and has disclosed separate cybersecurity incidents in the past, including a 2025 ransomware attack that disrupted certain airport services. Based on the differing dates and the categories of data involved, this latest incident appears unrelated to that earlier disruption.
