At least one smartphone within your business is infected with malware

At least one smartphone within every large business is likely to be infected with malware, according to a report.

Research by Skycure found that within firms with more than 200 iOS and Android devices it is "almost guaranteed" that one is running malicious software.

Companies using Android devices are nearly twice as likely to have malware, the report said, and four per cent of all mobile devices are infected.

“Malware absolutely exists on enterprise mobile devices and standardising on iOS doesn’t make you safe,” said Skycure CTO Yair Amit.

“Unlike the nuisance malware of the past that targeted only consumers, today’s malware is smarter, and often more focused on businesses. We have seen recent attacks that have been specifically designed to circumvent two-factor authentication.

“Smartphones make excellent reconnaissance tools because they are able to track a user’s conversations and movements twenty-four seven. That means malware can target specific individuals for access to valuable personal and corporate information.”

The report found that three per cent of all enterprise iOS devices have malware installed, compared to nearly six per cent of Android devices.

Android was also found to have a greater variety of malware. Total Android malware consisted of 76 per cent unique varieties, while only 22 per cent of all installed malware on Apple’s iOS was unique, according to the statistics.

One of the key threats to Android security was the fact that 19 per cent of enterprise devices running the operating system allow app installation from third-party stores.
