How should we deal with the dark side of Artificial Intelligence?

It is a problem that may affect all of us: if hackers keep using and perfecting artificial intelligence appliances, devices, and tools, everybody is going to suffer, from ourselves to entire governments. And the repercussions could be huge, given that data privacy and anonymity are at a premium these days.
