Diversity and the skills shortage: “If you’re searching for something, then you’ll find it”

Recently I met with Marco Comastri, EMEA President at CA Technologies who spoke about the multi-fold opportunities that the cyber security industry offers.
For Marco, education should provide the tools for the future. “It's not what you study, is how you study: you learn how to study technical problems, then you can apply these skills to any kind of issue in a company,” he says.
He adds that you can’t underestimate the importance of curiosity either. This, along with, science, technology and mathematics, is invaluable for cyber security companies. Marco states that it is then up to the company to “equip new employees with the skills.”
Marco also highlighted the importance of diversity in the workplace; one which reflects the true makeup of society. He thinks recruiting diversely should be a higher priority for companies than it is at present.
But if there isn't a diverse pool of talent, how can we recruit diversely? He doesn't agree, stating that the right people are out there. “If you're searching for something, then you’ll find it,” he stresses.
