Artificial Intelligence and the SaaS revolution

David Shepherd at Ivanti asks whether your organisation will be able to capitalise on AI-based security

A few years ago, the SaaS market was already on a pretty incredible growth trajectory. The speed of expansion and enhancement was headline-worthy.

As it turned out, we hadn’t seen anything yet. The current phase of artificial intelligence has completely transformed the market, creating a whole new realm of possibilities. And we’re just scratching the surface. Infused with AI, SaaS has the potential to offer hyper-efficient, hyper-tailored services beyond what was even thought possible not long ago.

If you’re still sitting on the sidelines waiting to see where — or even if — your business fits into this new framework, I’m afraid I have bad news: you’re already missing out. Businesses that fail to adapt to the rise of AI-infused SaaS risk obsolescence.

Act now, and act wisely

To be clear, AI is complicated and not without major caveats and considerations. But that doesn’t mean you should shy away. It means you should start now — and do it right.

Over the past decade, the SaaS market has seen a compound annual growth rate of 25%. A recent Deloitte study revealed that 79% of AI adopters anticipate the technology will substantially transform their business within the next three years. According to Gartner, by 2025, 80% of B2B sales interactions between suppliers and buyers will occur in digital channels. AI-enhanced SaaS platforms will largely facilitate this shift.

AI-powered SaaS is already here. It’s a present-day imperative, not a future consideration.

What AI can do for you

Knowing the imperative is one thing. Capitalising on it is another. Here are just a few of the ways you may be able to enhance your SaaS solution by integrating AI:

  • Workflow streamlining. AI algorithms can analyse usage patterns and suggest optimisations, making workflows more efficient and intuitive.
  • Automated customer support. AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants are handling an increasing volume of customer queries, providing 24/7 support and freeing human agents to focus on complex issues.
  • Data-driven insights. AI can process vast amounts of data at unprecedented speeds, uncovering insights that would be impossible for humans to discern manually.
  • Predictive analytics. By analysing historical data, AI can forecast trends, helping businesses make proactive decisions.
  • Personalisation at scale. AI enables SaaS platforms to provide personalised experiences to each user, improving engagement and satisfaction.

All that can be summed up fairly succinctly: AI has the potential to make things easier for people.

Specifically, it can make things easier for customers who benefit from customised experiences and faster response times. It can make things easier for IT workers who can finally get ahead of the onslaught of support tickets and focus on strategic value. It can make things easier for decision-makers, for analysts, and for stakeholders who want to see the business thrive.

The downsides of AI

As indicated, AI is not without challenges. Make sure you proceed with full consideration for the following:

  • Data privacy and security. As AI systems process vast amounts of data, ensuring privacy and security becomes even more critical.
  • Ethical AI use. Businesses must ensure their AI systems make fair and unbiased decisions.
  • Skills gap. There’s a growing need for professionals who understand both SaaS and AI technologies.
  • Integration complexities. Incorporating AI into existing SaaS platforms can be technically challenging and resource-intensive.

How to start integrating AI

Ready to make the most of AI and SaaS together? Use the upsides and downsides above to help foster alignment and transparency within your organisation. As with any big integration, it’s essential to have everyone on the same page. Then consider the following steps:

Assess current processes: Identify areas where AI could have the most significant impact on your SaaS usage.

Invest in data quality: AI systems are only as good as the data they’re trained on. Ensure your data is clean, organised, and comprehensive.

Prioritise user experience: As AI automates more processes, focus on creating intuitive interfaces that maximise these enhancements.

Continuous learning: Stay informed about AI advancements and their potential applications in your industry.

Ethical considerations: Develop clear guidelines for AI use that align with your company’s values and ethical standards.

Of course, your mileage may vary. But it’s undeniable that AI is transforming the SaaS space, and those who will benefit the most are figuring out how to proceed quickly, efficiently and ethically. Standing still is not an option.

The revolution is here. Will you capitalise on it?
